About me

Hi, I’m Dav.

I was born in Ecuador, South America, and moved to England when I was five years old. Growing up bilingual means I consider both Spanish and English to be my native languages, and I am fluent in both.

Alongside Spanish and English, I have also studied French for many years. Learning a third language has given me first-hand experience of the challenges, frustrations and rewards that come with language learning. It has helped me understand what it feels like to be a learner, and I believe that perspective allows me to better support and relate to my students throughout their own language-learning journey.

After nearly six years teaching Spanish and French in a local secondary school, I decided to focus on private tutoring, alongside a number of other professional projects. Since leaving full-time classroom teaching in 2021, I have had the privilege of working with students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to GCSE and A Level students, as well as adults learning for travel, work or simply for the enjoyment of learning a new language.

Private tutoring has reminded me why I became a teacher in the first place. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student achieve a goal they once thought was out of reach. Whether that’s improving a GCSE grade, holding your first conversation in Spanish, preparing for a holiday, or finally having the confidence to speak with family, every student’s journey is different, and I genuinely enjoy being part of it.

One of the biggest differences between classroom teaching and one to one tutoring is the ability to focus entirely on one person. There is no pressure to keep pace with a class or follow a rigid scheme of work. Every lesson is built around you, your current level, your interests and your goals.

My Teaching Style

I believe languages are learned by using them, not just studying them.

From the very beginning, I encourage students to communicate in Spanish in a supportive and relaxed environment. My lessons focus on meaningful conversation, listening and understanding through plenty of comprehensible input, allowing you to absorb the language naturally while gradually building confidence. Grammar certainly has its place, but rather than memorising endless rules, you’ll learn how and when to use it in real situations.

Above all, I want my students to enjoy learning. When lessons are engaging, relevant and enjoyable, progress comes naturally.

Many of my students tell me that they feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and speaking without fear of getting everything perfect. That confidence is something I value just as highly as exam results.

My Experience

I have spoken both English and Spanish fluently throughout my life and have studied French for many years.

I have nearly six years of classroom teaching experience, preparing students for GCSE and A Level examinations, alongside several years of dedicated one to one tutoring experience. During that time I have worked with learners of all ages, including secondary school students, adult beginners, heritage speakers and those learning for travel or personal interest.

Every lesson is fully personalised. Some students want to improve their conversation skills, others need targeted exam preparation, while many simply want to learn at their own pace for enjoyment. Whatever your reason for learning, lessons are adapted to suit your individual needs, helping you make steady progress while building confidence along the way.

My Availability

As I now primarily work as a private tutor alongside other professional projects, my availability varies throughout the week.

I offer flexible lesson times during weekdays, evenings and weekends where possible. My timetable is arranged around my students, so if you’re looking for a particular day or time, please get in touch and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.

If you’re unsure whether tutoring is right for you, I’d be delighted to have a chat about your goals and how we can work together to help you achieve them.
